Pinocchio is given the acclaim as the second animated feature and part of the Walt Disney Animated Classics. This is mainly based on the story written by11 Carlo Collodi, entitled Pinocchio: Tale of a Puppet. The story involves a wooden puppet who wished to become are real boy but needs to proves himself to be "brave, truthful, and unselfish".
Disney's Animated Pinocchio has been directed by Ben Sharpsteen, Hamilton Luske, Norman Ferguson, T. Hee, Wilfred Jackson, Jack Kinney, and Bill Roberts. It is written by Aurelius Battaglia, William Cottrell, Otto Englander, Erdman Penner, Joseph Sabo, Ted Sears, and Webb Smith. It is based on the book by Carlo Collodi.
Cliff Edwards narrated for the animated film. The other voice casts are Dickie Jones, Christian Rub, Mel Blanc, Walter Catlett, Charles Judels, Evelyn Venable, and Frankie Darro. This has been distributed by RKO Radio Pictures.
The United States theatrical release history was as follows, February 7, 1940 (World premiere, Center Theatre, New York City), February 9, 1940 (Los Angeles opening), ad February 23, 1940 (General release) and July 4, 1944. The re-release dates were October 17, 1945, July 4, 1949, February 18, 1954, January 18, 1962, and July 7, 1971. December 16, 19781 is with The Small One featurette, December 21, 1984, and June 26, 1992.
Some worldwide release dates were Brazil - February 26, 1940, Argentina - March 13, 1940, U.K. - May 21, 1940, Australia - October 24, 1940, Sweden - February 3, 1941, Canada - October 10, 1941, and Eritrea - December 3, 1941. Other dates were Chile - February 12, 1942, Switzerland - May 13, 1942, Egypt - November 12, 1942, and Finland January 31, 1943 to name a few. The home video release has been coming out several times in various formats.
These were July 16, 1985 (VHS, Betamax and Laserdisc, Classics edition), October 14, 1986 (VHS and Betamax, remastered Classics edition), March 26, 1993 (VHS and Laserdisc, restored Classics edition), and April 16, 1995 (VHS, Spanish-dubbed Cl2sicos edition). Last October 26, 1999, it was released in DVD as part of the 60th Anniversary Edition, as well as a Limited Issue. Lastly, it will be part of the Platinum Edition DVD and Blu-Ray on March 10, 2009.
