Pocahontas is a title character and is considered as an American Princess. This is the 33rd animated feature that Disney has produced. This came out last 1995 and has a sequel entitled Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World, which is a direct-to-video sequel.
She is considered as part of the official Disney Princess. She is loosely based on a real historical figure named Matoaka, who is more known with the nickname of Pocahontas. Pocahontas is the first and only Disney Princess to have two men in her life namely John Smith and John Rolfe.
Disney's Pocahontas has been directed by Mike Gabriel and Eric Goldberg. The writers are Carl Binder for the screenplay and Chris Buck for the story. The genres are Animation, Drama, Family, History, Musical, and Romance.
Voice casts included some big names and some unknowns. They were Irene Bedard for Pocahontas (voice), Judy Kuhn for Pocahontas (singing voice), Mel Gibson for John Smith (voice), David Ogden Stiers for Governor Ratcliffe / Wiggins (voice), John Kassir for Meeko (voice). The others were Russell Means for Powhatan (voice), Christian Bale for Thomas (voice), Linda Hunt for Grandmother Willow (voice), and Danny Mann for Percy (voice).
Pocahontas doesn't have the typical features of other princesses like Snow White, Cinderella and Princess Aurora. But she is still officially included as a Disney Princess mainly because she is the daughter of a Native American chief. She is depicted as free-spirit, brave, wise beyond her years and very courageous.
