Walt Disney Pictures Presents Disney Animated Movies
The Black Cauldron

The Black Cauldron

Disney's film, The Black Cauldron has a slightly different flavor than The AristoCats, although both are Disney animated films. Known in some countries as Taran and the Magic Cauldron, this Disney film is a story of good1 versus evil, Taran, the hero fighting the Horned God. Lloyd Alexander's Book, the Chronicles of Prydain is the inspiration for The Black Cauldron movie.

The Disney animated movie, The Black Cauldron, was released in 1985. A notable thing about The Black Cauldron was that it was the first use of the APT process in an animation. The $25 million dollar production also used computer-generated animation, another Disney first.

Thanks to some last minute editing, the Disney Family animated flavor was preserved in The Black Cauldron. Some of the more graphic scenes of Taran slaying the undead were removed, in order not to terrify children and alienate families. In one or two places this is visible as a jump in the sound track.
