Disney animators have made an art of developing a minor character into an animated movie. Tinkerbelle has her own movie, and is no longer just a character from Peter Pan. She is a part of the Disney Fairies franchise.
The movie Tinkerbell is the first time Disney animators have given the fairy Tinkerbell spoken dialogue. The Disney animated film used digital 3D modeling to produce Tinkerbell. This 2008 computer animated film features a character from the J.M. Barrie play about Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up.
Tink was first in the Disney animated film Peter Pan from 1953. She reappeared in the 2002 Disney animated movie, Return to Neverland. In those two movies Tinkerbell was drawn by means of traditional animation, but Tinkerbell the movie is computer generated animation.
Tinkerbell was released directly to DVD in October 2008, making it the newest Disney animated movie. It is supported by short fairy webisodes about the various Disney Fairies. The Disney animated movie met with several obstacles due to changes of leadership at Disney.
